As the blooming season in your flower garden reaches the turning point you may find the first messengers of autumn creeping in. Now is a good time to clear out the withering and wilting browns and cut back anything that looks like it's on it's way out. A trip to your local nursery can supplement the remaining greens with late- blooming splashes of color to extend the beauty of your garden into late fall.
The vegetable and herb garden harvest is in full swing. Time to enjoy the fruits of your labor and don't forget to save some seeds for next years bounty. Consider swapping seeds or cuttings with neighbors and friends for an inexpensive, fresh variety next year.
To reduce the need for fertilizers and pesticides it might also be a good idea to start planning for next year's crops.
