by Marilyn Bohn
February 21, 2008
I am terrible at Yoga. I get up at 5:30 five days a week and I go walking with my friend. The 50 minutes we are walking we solve all the world's problems (now if anyone else would believe that and use our ideas).
Then I come home and attempt to do yoga. I do it watching a DVD with Wailana a yoga instructor in Hawaii. The scenery behind her is of the ocean with the waves breaking onto the r ...more...

by Marilyn Bohn
February 21, 2008
Recently my daughter's home she is renting was broken into and she and her three housemates had their computers stolen as well as a wallet, camera and ipod.
Theft is such a violation especially in ones own home. If you think because you are only renting a house or apartment that you don't need insurance, this may change your mind, insurance isn't just for homeowners.

5. Thank You Notes
by Marilyn Bohn
February 15, 2008
A few years ago a friend called to tell me how grateful she was to me. She had been reading over past thank you notes and she thanked me for my 'sweet' note. She shared with me that she had kept all the thank you notes she had received over the past 30 years and as she was going over them it brought back memories of her friends. I enjoyed our conversation even though I had no memory of the note ...more...

6. Organizing an itty bitty bathroom
by Marilyn Bohn
February 15, 2008
I like going to Parade of Homes tours to get ideas for decorating and to see the latest in home technology. I have noticed many homes have bathrooms that are almost as big as the bedroom. Then there are other older homes where the bathroom seems to have been an after thought. I have an itty bitty bathroom that is so small I can reach both walls by just spreading my arms out (and not the whole way) ...more...

As I went out to feed the birds today I sunk up to my knees in snow as I made my way to the bird feeder. And more snow is expected for the end of this week. I know this kind of weather makes some people have cabin fever. Do you get cabin fever? I was working with a woman who said her therapist told her to get organizing. He told her even if you don't do any more than move one can to the other ...more...

11. Organizing without going physical and emotionally bankrupt
by Marilyn Bohn
February 6, 2008
A few years ago on a Monday night I was giving my 10 year old daughter instructions on cleaning her room. I was pointing out the clothes and nick nacks that needed to be put away, where to put them and how to organize the room. I was going a mile a minute just picturing the progress she would make with my expert advice when she said to me "MOM, ISN'T THERE A TUESDAY?" That brought me up short. I ...more...

12. 7 tips for organizing pet supplies
by Marilyn Bohn
February 6, 2008
Tips on organizing for pets: • Keep all pet supplies handy. In a basket keep all supplies together, brushes, combs, flea collars or powders, soap, leashes, or extra toys. You may find it more handy to keep a brush near where you actually brush your pet, or keep soap under the sink where you bathe your pet. I have used several different brushes and my all time favorite is a rubber brush. They are ...more...

13. The Clutter Factor and Working From Home
by Ellen Gaver
February 4, 2008
Some people are comfortable with clutter. Some people feel at home in the midst of chaos. I am not one of those people. Clutter, to me, is a constant reminder of work undone, of a lack of solitude, a lack of balance. Clutter is oppressive. My favorite day of the year is the day of “de-Christmas-ing” my home. Don’t get me wrong…I love Christmas. I love the beautiful and magical way my home l ...more...

by Marilyn Bohn
January 26, 2008
Honestly this is the very hardest!! Tips I have found that work for me: I show him how I want it to look and how I want it kept that way (like junk 'resource' drawers that he also uses all the time). I bought organizers for the drawer and organized it and asked him (a verbal contract) if he would help me keep it that way. It worked. Now and again I do have to put things back in their right plac ...more...

15. Unique Tips on Organizing Magazines and Catalogs
by Marilyn Bohn
January 26, 2008
One thing I have noticed as a professional organizer of homes and offices is that most people hold onto magazines and catalogs way after they have 'expired'; which creates clutter. It seems today everything has an expiration date, from food, medicines, children's car seats, batteries to parts in cars. Expired magazines or catalogs are the ones that have been around for so long the articles ar ...more...

When you think of clearing clutter does a closet, drawer or room come to mind? How about getting rid of the clutter in your medicine cabinet? 17. Don't Sweat The Small Stuff
by Marilyn Bohn
January 17, 2008
I was reading in the book "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff…and it's all small stuff" by Richard Carlson, PH.D. I have read the book before but not everything always sticks so I like to go back and reread as a refresher. I set as my goal to read two to three chapters a night. They are so small each can be read in one to three minutes. The heading on the chapter I was reading is 'Make Peace with I ...more...

18. Working Faster is not Always the Answer

January 17, 2008
It is a beautiful time of year as it is January and we have over 18 inches of snow in our yard. Where we have shoveled it is about three feet high. I have several bird feeders and I enjoy watching the birds feed when it is snowy or snowing. They show up really well against the white background. They also seem so happy and there are so many of them.

A friend was talking about precious memories of music in her life and shared a story of her father who had a beautiful tenor voice and every morning very early could be heard singing throughout the house or when he was outside all the neighbors could hear him because of his big booming voice. Years later when he was in a nursing home and she would walk in to the building she knew it was a good ...more...

21. Using Goals to Your Advantage to Get Organized This Year
by Marilyn Bohn
January 8, 2008
Do you cringe when you hear the word goal or New Year's resolutions? Or are you goal driven and you relish the thought of writing goals and crossing them off? I am one of the latter. I write down what I am going to do during a day, if I do something that is not on my list I sometimes go back and write it down just so I can cross it off. And I know others who do the same thing. It gives me a fee ...more...

22. Out With the Old and In With the New
by Marilyn Bohn
January 8, 2008
Professionally I am a creative organizer. I go into people's homes and offices and I organize what is 'out of wack' to them. Recently I was working with a woman who was saying how much she appreciated the way I organized. She had had someone else help her organize before and her philosophy was to throw everything out. I just gasped. That is not the answer to being organized. I have noticed t ...more...
