Before buying a home be sure to get it thoroughly inspected. Most people know to have someone come and check the building for plumbing and electrical issues but there is a more subtle type of damage that should be checked for and it can be even more dangerous than the others to the health of your family. To avoid this hidden danger be sure to get a mold inspection before deciding on a house and then have your home checked occasionally throughout the time you own the home. Mold is essentially a fungus that grows in damp and wet areas. It is fairly innocuous most of the time but when it releases its spores it can cause a multitude of health problems. From simple things like eye irritation, dizziness, headaches and allergies to more serious conditions like emphysema, asthma and in some cases death. Although the problem is most common in older homes a mold inspection is a good investment for any home because it can grow in any bathroom, kitchen, basement or attic. In many instances it will even be found within the walls of the whole building. Some conditions are visible to the naked eye but it is best to have a professional mold inspection because the most common places for it to grow are mostly out of regular view. Remember, just because you cannot see it does not mean it cannot make you sick. In fact anywhere there is a leak or excess moisture will continue to grown and produce fungus. Simple cleaning will not reduce the problem if the source of the moisture is not isolated. A professional inspector will be adept at locating problem areas and then tracing them back to the source so that it can be remedied before any sort of cleanup effort is undertaken. Once the root of the problem is discovered a professional cleanup team will be able to come in and do a thorough job of removing and remediating the parts of the house that have been affected. The hardest part of the process is that there are a number of building materials throughout the house and outside the home that can be breeding grounds for this toxic fungus. Wood, carpet, clothing, cardboard, and almost every material used to build walls are prone to contamination. As a result it is only with a highly trained mold inspection team that all possible areas can be checked out. Additionally this type of service brings with it the tools and supplies to clean up and disinfect the house in the safest and least invasive way. One of the dangers with this kind of fungus is that when it is disturbed it often releases more harmful spores that will get into your lungs, your skin and in the air. To ensure the minimal amount of health risk to you and your family have a qualified mold inspection done.
